My mentor
Howard Camner (1957)
My mentor sits
staring at a painting on his wall
It is a painting of a giant face
A giant face with no eyes, no mouth, no nose, no ears,
Nothing
just a blank face
My mentor just stares at it
all day and all night
I visit him once a week for inspiration
He never looks at me
He just stares at the painting of the blank face
and imparts his wisdom:
"The nail that holds this painting up on the
wall never gets a moment's rest.
Don't be a nail."
